#10 Weather. Touring. Repetition.

#10 Weather. Touring. Repetition.

16 April 2024

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." - Dr. Seuss

I remember turning 30 and finally learning the wonder of weatherproof outerwear, such as a raincoat. Experience and practice teach a respect of function over fashion. Especially in April.

Walking through BER airport the other morning, I spotted a fellow RiutBag user. Turns out he's a touring musician - his RiutBag X35 happily travels with him. His partner bought him the X35 during Covid with the words: “you will tour again”. How right she was.

I remember my dad picking me up from Stansted airport years ago. After meeting at arrivals, we found his car and off we drove. “Shall I put Reading into Google maps?”, my 23 year old self asked him. “Oh no, I know the way.” I was stunned. His confidence gave me a glimpse of past times in my dad’s life that must have come before. Repetition. Place. Work. Experience. The knowledge of someone older than you that accumulates just by living, working and travelling. And much of it pre-mobile, of course.

Question

How often do you complete a journey, before you no longer reference your phone?
